Planning a Stag Weekend?

stag weekend

Being the man chosen to organise the stag do should be an honour, but more often than not it can be a headache. So as an insider to the industry here is a simple guide to make things easier for you, the very best man:

stag weekend

• You need to really know the stag’s likes and dislikes. While stitching him up may sound fun to you, remember this is something to mark the biggest occasion in his life. Put some thought into what and who makes him happy.

• Who do you invite? Hopefully his family, friends and colleagues. Pay attention to who he has spoken about fondly and equally those he really wouldn’t want along for a stag weekend. Should the stag’s father or the father of the bride be invited? Only if they’ll liven it up not stifle the fun! Cunningly not inviting people can be tricky as they may be offended, so be clever.

• How many people you invite will influence what you do and where, but which do you plan for first? If he has a lot of friends and is a social animal then a big group is good but takes effort. Some events have minimum number requirements so bear this in mind when booking. Tailor the event to the number of people. A handful can go karting but a larger group is better for paintballing. Groups who don’t know eachother are well suited to events which team people together and have some competitive spirit.

• Simply getting agreements to go is one thing, obtaining deposits and then final payments calls for a firm grasp of the situation. Be prepared for up to a quarter of the list to drop out and don’t take excuses. Check cancellation policies too, is any deposit or payment refundable. If not will it come out of your pocket if someone doesn’t pay up then cancels?

• Cost is a hugely important factor. A good night for one person may be a couple of months’ entertainment budget for another. Try to find something everyone can afford. Heading abroad costs more than staying in the UK. A great low cost stag weekend can be had by shopping around and with the industry being huge there is no reason to book the first event or package you see.

• If the stag has a habit of doing daft things to people and playing practical jokes then maybe, just maybe some fancy dress and photography is called for. I thoroughly recommend it actually. After all you never know when you might be able to use a life size full colour picture of a man, in a big curly wig, standing on a podium, wearing a mankini.

• Have fun and try not to get arrested!
